Mandatory Continuing Education Requirements
For 2013, AIA members are required to satisfy a minimum of 18 LUs per year. Of this total, 12 must meet the health, safety, and welfare (HSW) criteria. AIA members will no longer need to complete the sustainable design requirement.
The AIA and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) have collaborated to ensure that the content of the seminars and tours for this year’s convention meet the health, safety, and welfare criteria agreed to by both organizations.
Intern Development Program
Interns may earn IDP supplemental experience hours by completing approved AIA continuing education programs. 1 AIA LU is equal to 1 IDP supplemental experience hour. When submitting to NCARB, Learning Units must be documented on the intern’s AIA transcript. Any intern in IDP can request a free AIA transcript.
ADA Programs
The AIA will have forms pre-populated with seminar information, and pre-approved by the California Architectural Board, for attendees licensed in California or Texas who need to submit proof of earning ADA credit for licensure. These forms will be available with the handouts for each course, which you can download from the individual course descriptions in the Program Search.
AIA Virtual Convention
We'll be streaming live more than 10 hours of continuing education from the Colorado Convention Center, and then making more than 30 hours of convention programs available as archived, on-demand presentations.
